The Annual Reelin’ for Research Fishing Tournament benefiting the N.C. Children’s Promise is held the first weekend in May in honor of Tony Montana, who passed away from cancer four years ago. After taking a step back, a group of Tony’s closest friends asked themselves “What would Tony want?” This led to a unanimous decision to start this tournament for the children!!! Tony believed that he had the opportunity to live such a wonderful life, but that many children with cancer are being deprived of that chance. Research to help these children is critical and that is exactly what we are supporting.

The 1st Annual Reelin’ for Resarch Fishing Tournament was a tremendous success. We proudly presented a check to Dr. Stuart Gold of the N.C. Children’s Hospital on Friday, May 1st for $26,200! Net proceeds from the event went directly to the N.C. Children’s Promise, the fundraising arm of North Carolina Children’s Hospital. The tournament, held Saturday May 2, continued to raise money over the weekend, totaling just shy of $30,000 from the 16 competing boats, a ratio few, if any, tournaments are able to match. An Awards Ceremony Saturday night, also held at Chefs 105, capped off the weekend with more than 200 attendees. Plaques were presented to the winners as well as other noted anglers. With the support of so many, we are very proud to say, not only did we meet our goals, but we surpassed our own expectations.

Each member of the Reelin’ for Research Steering Committee is enthusiastic, dedicated and determined to make a difference through this tournament. This perseverance and strength of each and every one of us made the 1st Annual Tournament a reality. And the contributions, donations and guidance from individuals and local businesses made it happen!

Thank you in advance for your help in making Reelin’ for Research a success!
